Hi I’m Ellie. I’m a Senior Lecturer in Media at Birmingham City University, UK.

I’m a comedy, gender studies and media researcher and I teach across media and communications, media production and film related degree programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. My first monograph Stand-Up Comedy and Contemporary Feminisms: Sexism, Stereotypes and Structural Inequalities which was published by Bloomsbury 2023. I was the co-editor with Nathalie Weidhase and Poppy Wilde of Working Women on Screen: Paid labour and fourth wave feminism (2024) published by Palgrave and I am also the book reviews editor for Comedy Studies.

In 2017 I co-founded Mixed Bill a comedy and gender research network with Dr Kate Fox (stand-up poet) and Lisa Moore (University of Salford). Mixed Bill is an informal network that focuses on engaging the public, comedy industry professionals and performers with comedy research through events and workshops.
